This activity examines, in depth, the literature on conscious and unconscious biases and their impact on health and health care, with a particular focus on lupus. The modules explore the epidemiology, disparities, and social determinants within the contexts of those racial and ethnic groups disproportionately affected by lupus health disparities.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize that physician attitudes and behaviors related to race, ethnicity, and culture can affect quality of care and clinical outcomes
  2. Describe three strategies which draw on the neuroscience of unconscious bias that can be used in everyday practice to mitigate the negative effects of bias
