As part of the NP/PA onboarding series, this live webinar will focus on mentoring. The talk will include different styles and how to tailor them to individual offices, as well as how to avoid any potential pitfalls that come with mentorship. Join in and listen to Donald E. Thomas, Jr., MD, FACP, FACR and Chikako Riester, CRNP from Arthritis and Pain Associates of PG County discuss these topics and more.

Target Audience
Office managers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe how rheumatologists should set up the on-boarding of an NP/PA into their practice
  • Recognize the importance of having the NP/PA shadow the rheumatologist as part of the on-boarding and mentoring process
  • Outline the transition of NP/PA from new hire to independent rheumatology provider
  • Understand the importance of ongoing learning for an NP/PA in rheumatology

Donald E. Thomas, Jr., MD, FACP, FACR, is a board-certified rheumatologist. He teaches at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.  He is a Fellow member of the American Board of College of Physicians (FACP) and the American College of Rheumatology (FACR), certified in Clinical Densitometry (CCD) by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, and is amongst the first group of rheumatologists certified by the American College of Rheumatology in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases (RhMSUS).

Chikako Riester, CRNP, is a board-certified Adult Nurse Practitioner.  She was born and raised in Japan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Aomori University of Health and Welfare. Chikako graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania where she obtained a Master of Science in Nursing.
