Summary: 2003 Basic Research Conference – Synovial Biology

The American College of Rheumatology Basic Research Conference “Synovial Biology” was held October 23-24, 2003 in Orlando, Florida. The conference was designed to merge basic science with experimentation directly relevant to disease. The focus was on:

  • Cellular signaling
  • Cellular inflammation
  • Soluble mediators
  • Synovial fibroblasts

The goals for the conference were to:

  • Bring together experts in areas of interest to the rheumatology scientific committee,
  • Facilitate discussion between basic scientists and translational investigators, and
  • Provide a milieu for young scientists to interact with leaders in the field of synovial biology.

Overview

The co-chairs, Drs. Bruce N. Cronstein (New York University Medical Center, New York, NY) and Steffen Gay (University Hospital, Zurich, Switzerland) invited 13 scientists who have made important contributions to synovial biology. In addition to the three sessions by invited speakers, six abstracts were presented orally and 37 posters were on view during an evening session. There were 584 registrants for the program.

Session I: Cellular Inflammation in Inflamed Synovium (Part I) Session II: Cellular Inflammation in Inflamed Synovium (Part II) Session III:
