The REF offers an extensive core awards and grants program with research and education opportunities for clinicians, students, health professionals, researchers and academic institutions. These awards are an integral part of REF efforts to ensure the future of rheumatology.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

AHRQ provides a Grants On-Line Database that can be searched for abstracts
of previous award recipients (http://www.gold.ahrq.gov). A list of current
research grant opportunities is offered in areas such as large conference support,
translating research into practice, and patient-centered care.
Alliance for Lupus Research

Through its ALR Funded Research link, the site details its five critical areas
of research: Susceptibility, Pathogenesis, Inflammation and Damage, Clinical
Assessment, and Therapy. Detailed information is available on the proposal
and review process and a link is provided to “proposalCENTRAL” for online submission
of applications.

This site provides basic contact information and descriptions of the programs,
including research, which the organization supports. Viewers can also use the
links provided to other websites related to autoimmune disorders.
American Diabetes Association

View this site for a description of the types of research funded: peer-reviewed
projects aimed at preventing, treating and curing all types of diabetes. Examples
include genetics, islet cell biology, immunology, diabetes education and behavioral
research. A link is provided to application forms and program descriptions
targeted at medical students and junior faculty. Previous award winners can
also be reviewed.
Arthritis Foundation

This site offers information on the three major initiatives funded by the
Arthritis Foundation: Career Development and Training Programs; Basic, Clinical
and Health Services Research; and Special Targeted Research Initiatives. It
also provides many examples of the recipients of the organization's multiple

Arthritis National Research Foundation

This organization is a funding source for young scientists working on basic and clinical autoimmune diseases. Grants are awarded competitively, and ANRF gives 10-15 awards of $75,000 for one or two years.
Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation

Johnson & Johnson /Society for the Arts in Healthcare

To promote the use of the arts to enhance the healthcare experience for patients, their families, and caregivers. Proposals are being sought from healthcare organizations and/or arts agencies working in partnership to produce innovative projects to serve patients, their families, and caregivers in healthcare settings to promote healing and preventative health. J&J/SAH projects may be located in a variety of settings, including clinics, hospitals, hospices, medical schools, public health services, or other community health programs.

National Institutes of Health

National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Through the site’s Research link, visitors can access a Frequently Asked Questions

The Resources for Researchers page provides information on specimen banks,
clinical trials, and results published by recent Society grantees. Viewers
will also note the new electronic submission only process.
National Psoriasis Foundation

This site describes the foundation’s “seed grants” which support innovative
research projects in psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. Grants are intended
to support preliminary investigations that can be later expanded for NIH or
other funding. A research grant application can be downloaded in PDF format.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Physician Faculty Scholars Program is intended to strengthen the leadership and academic productivity of junior medical school faculty dedicated to improving health and health care. The foundation will make up to 15 awards of up to $300,000 each over three years in 2007 to help young physicians develop their careers in academic medicine.

of the Scleroderma Foundation. Proposals by researchers new to the field of

Sjogren’s Syndrome Foundation

This organization’s focus is “first stage funding” for projects designed to
produce evidence required by more mainstream funding sources at a later date.
