Travel Award Application

The American College of Rheumatology is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of travel awards for rheumatology fellows to attend the ACR Rheumatology Research Workshop. The workshop will take place August 22-24, 2008 at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca, IL.

The workshop is designed to promote connections between young and established investigators for research and career mentoring; foster collaborations between groups of investigators; create a cadre of young investigators that will be able to attract students and residents into rheumatology; and provide examples to trainees and students of role models or pathways for successful careers in academic rheumatology.

Travel Awards will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and include:

  • Meeting registration fees
  • 2-nights hotel room and tax charges only
  • Roundtrip economy/coach airfare to Chicago, IL from the candidates home city
  • A stipend to cover ground transportation to and from the airport
  • Meals related during the workshop

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the travel scholarship, candidates must submit an abstract to the meeting. Here are the Abstract Submission Guidelines.

Abstracts dually submitted to the ACR Annual Scientific Meeting and the ACR Rheumatology Research Workshop can be presented at both meetings - the author will NOT have to choose.

Candidates can be:

  • A medical student or resident enrolled in an ACGME-accredited pediatric, medicine or combined medicine/pediatric residency program who are interested in rheumatology. 
  • A fellow-in-training at an ACGME-accredited training program, which will lead to eligibility to take the ABIM examination in rheumatology or the ABP examination in pediatric rheumatology. 
  • A faculty member within six years after completing their fellowship training program.

Selection Process:  Participants will be determined by the abstracts a review process.  Presenters will be notified by June 6, 2008. At that time, specific details pertaining to presentations will be communicated.
