ACR REF/Lupus Research Institute Lupus Investigator Fellowship Award

The ACR REF/Lupus Research Institute Lupus Investigator Fellowship Award is designed to encourage qualified physicians without significant prior research experience to develop a research career that will emphasize better understanding of systemic lupus erythematosus as a disease process affecting many individuals. This mentored post-doctoral fellowship program provides for the early years of research training in an environment that includes the active participation of established lupus investigators and an affiliation with a clinical unit involved in the care of lupus patients.

Eligibility
Individuals must have received an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution; completed training in internal medicine or pediatrics; and will have completed at least one year of specialty training in rheumatology at the start of the award. MD/PhDs, DO/PhDs, and PhDs are not eligible for this award. Only physicians, with not more than one and one-fourth years of research training at the time of application, are eligible.

Citizenship Requirements
Award applicant must be a citizen or non-citizen national of the United States, or be in lawful possession of a permanent resident card. Non-citizen nationals are generally persons born in outlying possessions of the United States (e.g., American Somoa and Swains Island). Individuals on temporary (J1, H1) or student visas are not eligible.

Award Terms and Funding
Each recipient of the Lupus Investigator Fellowship Award is expected to devote 75% of his/her professional time to activities related to the approved project. The award is funded for three years at $50,000 annually. Only two applications may be submitted per department in any institution.

Funding for this award is made possible through the financial support of the Lupus Research Institute.
