Cover image: The figure on the cover (from Judex et al, page 98) illustrates a section of rheumatoid arthritis synovial tissue that has been stained with hematoxylin and eosin and demarcated by a laser beam. The cells in this section can be harvested for RNA analysis by polymerase chain reaction. This technique allows patterns of gene expression to be characterized in histologically defined regions of synovium.
