Cover image: The figure on the cover (from Murphy et al, page 711) illustrates the histologic analysis of mesenchymal stem cells from patients with osteoarthritis, with oil red O staining used to assess adipogenic potential. Mesenchymal stem cells are present in the bone marrow and can differentiate along a number of connective tissue pathways. Assessment of chondrogenic or adipogenic potential of these cells provides an important in vitro measure of their functional capacity.
