Cover image: The figure on the cover (from Mix et  al, page 1100) depicts a human chondrosarcoma cell invading a  matrix of collagen. Matrix degradation, mediated by matrix metalloproteinases, is a key step in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. As shown in the article by Mix et al, synthetic compounds can prevent degradation and could have therapeutic potential.
