Cover image: The figure on the cover (from De Bari et al, page 92) shows immunofluorescence staining for type II collagen in transforming growth factor [beta]1-treated micromasses derived from human periosteum-derived cells (PDC). The demonstration of type II collagen in these micromasses is evidence that PDC have chondrogenic potential and can develop into cartilage. The chondrogenic potential of PDC may provide the basis for tissue engineering to regenerate or resurface cartilage.
