ANNOUNCEMENTS 16A
Cover image: These are award-winning images from the 2001 American College of Rheumatology slide contest. The magnetic resonance image shows a mass within the pituitary gland of a 72-year-old female with biopsy-proven Wegener's granulomatosis involving the lungs, kidneys, and sinuses. Laboratory evaluation showed evidence of anterior hypopituitarism. Histologic examination (medium power) of the mass after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy demonstrated necrotizing granulomatous inflammation consistent with Wegener's granulomatosis. Pituitary involvement in Wegener's is an uncommon occurrence, and anterior pituitary involvement is less common than posterior involvement.
