ANNOUNCEMENTS 13A

Cover Illustration: Adaptive devices are essential to patients with rheumatic diseases. Using longer-lever arms or putting handles on small items allows tasks to be done with less effort. The extended handle on the kitchen faucet, the key holder, and the rubber door knob extension are all examples of this principle. Such techniques also avoid deforming stresses on small joints, an important joint protection principle.
