A Announcements
Cover illustration: Mural "The History
of Cardiology", painted by Diego Rivera in 1943-1944 upon request of Dr.
Ignacio Chavez, the founder of the National Cardiology Institute of Mexico.
The message is that scientific progress has not been the patrimony of
any race or any nationalistic culture. It is the genius of the people
of every time that has developed universal culture. The mural also indicates
the ascending and difficult trend in knowledge. The bottom panels depict
ancient healers from Africa and from Meso-America administering herb extracts.
The active products of these herbs are still used in modern medicine.
