CMS Plans to Re-examine ICD-10 Timeline

February 15, 2012

On February 14, Marilyn Tavenner, acting administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, addressed attendees at the American Medical Association Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC indicating that CMS plans to re-examine the current ICD-10 implementation deadline of October 1, 2013. She stated that the federal government understands physician concerns and hopes this will reduce the administrative burden of implementation.

Last year the AMA called for a delay of the implementation date and voted in the House of Delegates to "vigorously work to stop the implementation" of the "onerous" implementation of ICD-10."
