Medicare Participation Options

Reminder – if you are a participating physician; opting out of Medicare can only be done four times a year: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.
The AMA has produced a new Medicare Participation Guide. They are advising physicians to review their options.
You will soon have the opportunity to declare your Medicare participation status. The American Medical Association's (AMA) "Know your Options: Medicare Participation Guide" will help you evaluate your options and choose the direction that is best for you and your practice. The kit contains a detailed explanation of your options, a revenue calculator and materials to guide you as you share your decision with patients.
You have three options:
Option 1: Participation in Medicare
Option 2: Non-participation in Medicare
Option 3: Private contracting (no involvement in Medicare)
Congress has been derelict in its duty to fulfill its Medicare obligations and physicians now face looming Medicare payment cuts of nearly 30 percent.
