To qualify as a Fellow-in-Training, an applicant must:
- Be a physician of high moral, ethical, and professional standing, who is certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Pediatrics and who is either currently enrolled or has completed a training program in rheumatology or a related field within the past year
- Be sponsored by two voting members of the ACR familiar with the applicant's professional competence, ethics, and moral standing
