AIM Practice Improvement Module
Assess, Improve, Measure or AIM is a web-based practice improvement tool specifically designed
for rheumatologists engaged in the AbiM Maintenance of Certification program or those interested
in completing a quality improvement program.
Each question in AIM relates directly to evidence-based quality measures. AIM will guide a medical chart abstractor (usually office personnel) through medical chart abstraction and only de-identified data is collected. No prior knowledge about measurement or improvement is needed.
The data will culminate in an automated report enabling each physician to:
- Reflect on practice performance data
- Identify practice strengths and areas for improvement
- Develop and implement an improvement plan
- Assess impact of change through re-measurement
- Report changes
AIM provides a comprehensive data report and format for the development of the physician improvement plan and impact statement. As the program expands, rheumatology-related benchmarks will become evident allowing each physician to evaluate his/her practice against the aggregate performance statistics of other practices. Educational resources and materials such as source articles and practice tips for adhering to the physician improvement plan are included in the AIM template.
Currently, AIM: Rheumatoid Arthritis is available and offers year-round enrollment with two abstraction phases a year and AIM: gout opens for enrollment in November 2007 with the first abstraction phase beginning in March 2008. AIM offers up to 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and 20 practice performance points in the ABIM's Maintenance of Certification program.
