The European Workshop for Rheumatology Research (EWRR) Travel Grant promotes the international exchange of rheumatic expertise and knowledge. The program recognizes outstanding rheumatology fellows or recently graduated fellows who are interested in research, and exposes them to the work that is being done by colleagues overseas. This travel grant allows participants to share knowledge and experience, and creates opportunities for collaboration between them. In addition, the program fosters collaboration between ACR and the European rheumatology community.
Nomination Process:
Rheumatology Program Directors may nominate one qualified adult or pediatric rheumatology fellow or recently graduated fellow from their institution who is available to participate in the European Workshop for Rheumatology Research, which is scheduled for February 28 to March 2, 2013 in Prague, Czech Republic.
Eligibility:
- As a minimum, the EWRR candidate must be:
ACR member, including trainee members, and a physician licensed to practice in the United States. - The candidate must have completed training in either internal medicine or pediatrics, and be either currently enrolled or have within the past three years completed training at an ACGME-accredited training program in rheumatology.
- Applicants must demonstrate a serious commitment to research.

Nominations will be accepted via an online application. During the application process each applicant will be asked to upload: Please have documents prepared before the application process is started.
- Current curriculum vitae (NIH format – limited to 3 pages – please include publications)
- Personal statement outlining how participation in the 2012 European Workshop for Rheumatology Research will be of benefit to your research career and how you can contribute to the program.
- An abstract describing applicant’s research (this can be from the ACR 2010 annual meeting or another recent meeting, or an abstract that has not yet been submitted to or accepted for a meeting)
- Letter of recommendation from the Rheumatology Program Director at the applicant’s institution. This letter of recommendation must document applicant’s commitment to research and how he/she would benefit from and contribute to the program.

All applications must be completed online by Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 5:00PM eastern time.
Selection and Notification Process
Selection for the 2013 EWRR will be conducted by the ACR Committee on Research. The committee will review all applications and make its selection of up to five participants by late November. Selected applicants will have travel expenses to the meeting covered (up to $1,000) and hotel expenses during the time of their stay. Please direct any questions to fittravel@rheumatology.org.
