CARE (Continuing Assessment, Review, and Evaluation) is an online self-assessment tool designed to assess the rheumatology knowledge base of physicians. All CARE questions have been placed through an exhaustive review and validation process to ensure clinical relevance.

* You must answer 70% of the questions correctly to receive CME credits and ABIM points towards MOC. Subscribers are offered three attempts to pass the program with a score of at least 70%. Your score results will be displayed each time you submit your answers. Any incorrect answers will not have the answers you selected displayed. This feature provides you the opportunity to focus on the questions you missed and reattempt to answer them correctly. After completing the program with a score of 70% or higher, you will be able to review the in-depth answer rationales for each question.
To receive ABIM MOC points towards recertification, you MUST be enrolled with the ABIM prior to beginning the module. If you’re not currently enrolled in the MOC program or have questions about the program, visit ABIM.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT
The American College of Rheumatology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
DESIGNATION STATEMENT
The ACR designates this enduring material for a maximum of 25 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for physicians to use as a self-assessment of their rheumatology medical knowledge base.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
The CARE 2012 Program consists of 75 multiple choice case based questions. Each question contains patient case information, answer rationales, and educational objectives. Images and over 100 educational links are included from UpToDate topic reviews, Arthritis & Rheumatism articles, New England Journal of Medicine and others.
NEEDS ASSESSMENT
The ABIM Maintenance of Certification program requires rheumatologists certified after 1990 to renew their certificates every ten years. In order to assist rheumatologists in the ABIM MOC program, the ACR developed tools including CARE 2012. CARE 2012 will help promote physicians lifelong learning efforts with an emphasis on their rheumatology medical knowledge base to help facilitate improving patient care.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- identify gaps in rheumatology medical knowledge and target study to address gaps
- recognize the clinical manifestations, pathophysiology, and treatment of many known forms of arthritis and related diseases
- evaluate patients with systemic symptoms and multisystem diseases as well as those with regional musculoskeletal disorders and be able to correctly diagnose and treat these specific diseases
- state the fundamental principles of inflammation, immunology, and genetics of rheumatic disease
ABOUT ACR/ARHP EDUCATION
The American College of Rheumatology is an organization of and for physicians, health professionals, and scientists that advances rheumatology through programs of education, research, advocacy and practice support that foster excellence in the care of people with arthritis and rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.
The ACR's CME purpose is to provide comprehensive education to improve the competence and performance of physicians, scientists and other health professionals. The educational activities are designed to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes in those with or at risk for arthritis and rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.
HOW TO OBTAIN CME CREDITS
To receive CME credits for this activity you must score 70% or higher and complete the CME activity evaluation. Learners are offered three attempts to pass. After completing the activity evaluation, your CME certificate will be available to download and print.
CONTENT VALIDATION
The ACR follows the ACCME policy on Content Validation for CME activities, which requires:
- All the recommendations involving clinical medicine in a CME activity must be based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients.
- All scientific research referred to, reported or used in CME in support or justification of a patient care recommendation must conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis.
USE OF PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT
The CARE Program, including all educational links is intended to be used as a tool to assess the rheumatology base medical knowledge of the learner. The information presented relates to basic principles of diagnosis and therapy, and is meant in no way to substitute for an individual patient assessment based upon the healthcare provider’s examination of the patient and consideration of laboratory data and other factors unique to the patient.

When prescribing medications, the health professional is advised to check the prescribing information accompanying each drug to verify conditions of use and to identify any changes in drug dosage schedule or contraindications.
