Maintenance of Licensure

All physicians must obtain a license to practice medicine in the United States and periodically re-register to continue their active status.

The Federation of State Medical Boards that represents the 70 medical boards of the U.S. and its territories in April 2010 created a system of continuous professional development for physicians that will ultimately be adopted by state medical and osteopathic boards called Maintenance of Licensure. Currently, the FSMB is developing pilot projects to test the MOL concept.
