Continuing Assessment, Review, and Evaluation Program

The ACR’s self-assessment program, CARE (Continuing Assessment, Review, and Evaluation) is primarily designed as a tool to test the medical knowledge-base of a rheumatology practitioner. All CARE questions have been placed through an exhaustive review and validation process to ensure clinical relevance.  CARE 2008 will be released this September.

When you register for CARE you will receive:

  • A user friendly web-based self-assessment tool.

  • 60 clinically relevant case based questions based on 13 content areas including RA, SLE, OA, and other rheumatic and connective tissue disease.

  • Over 100 educational links to scientific articles from publications such as Arthritis & Rheumatism, the New England Journal of Medicine, ACR Guidelines and UpToDate, Inc.® topic reviews

  • Twelve-month unlimited access to the site

  • Provides answers and in-depth rationales upon completion of the program

  • Up to 18 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits™ and/or ABIM's Maintenance of Certification 20 medical knowledge self-evaluation points for physicians enrolled in program. *

* Answer 70% of the questions correctly and receive CME credits and ABIM points towards MOC - participants are offered three attempts to pass the program. Please note: you must be enrolled in the MOC program to receive ABIM points.

Credit Designation Statement

The ACR designates the CARE Program for a maximum of 18 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s) ™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

The 2007 CARE Program was last reviewed on September 6, 2007 and released on September 11, 2007.

The 2007 CARE Program expires on September 10, 2010.

How to Obtain CME Credits

To receive CME credit for this activity you must score 70% or higher and complete the CME activity evaluation. After completing the activity evaluation, your CME certificate will be available to download from your computer.

This activity will take up to 18 hours to complete.

Activity Description

The CARE Program consists of 60 multiple choice questions, which may contain patient case information, answer rationales, educational objectives, images, educational links which include Arthritis and Rheumatism, the New England Journal of Medicine, UpToDate® topic reviews, and other scientific journal articles.

Target Audience

The target audience for this activity is rheumatologists seeking a tool for self-assessment of medical knowledge and those who need to recertify through the ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification program.

The CARE Program Educational Objectives

The CARE Program will allow physicians to assess their knowledge base in all areas of the field of rheumatology and immunology to prepare for the certification and recertification process. With the CARE Program, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the clinical manifestations, pathophysiology, and treatment of many known forms of arthritis and related diseases

  • Evaluate patients with systemic symptoms and multisystem diseases as well as those with regional musculoskeletal disorders and be able to correctly diagnose and treat these specific diseases

  • Understand the fundamental principles of inflammation, immunology, and genetics of rheumatic disease
