Mission Statement
The mission of the Virginia Society of Rheumatologists is to promote the highest quality medical care for patients with rheumatic conditions through:
- support for patient and medical provider education
- patient advocacy for access to all medically recognized
arthritis treatments and care
- emphasis on the role of the rheumatologist as the medical
specialist best capable of providing care for our patients.
History of Virginia Society of Rheumatologists:
The Virginia Society of Rheumatologists is the 506c professional medical society of Virginia’s rheumatologists and was founded in 1988. The Virginia Rheumatology Allied Health Professionals Association (VRAHPA) is an affiliated organization that includes nurses, radiology technicians, and medical assistants who assist in the care of rheumatic diseases patients in the state of Virginia.
VSR has a primarily educational focus, with an outstanding clinical meeting which is usually held at the end of September each year. The site of the meeting rotates around the state. This popular meeting now attracts more than 100 attendees each year including rheumatologists from all the surrounding states. VRAHPA has generally held their meeting in conjunction with the VSR meeting.
