Calls For Abstracts

Quick Links
The 72nd ACR Annual Scientific meeting in San Francisco will offer the latest basic science and clinical information through pre-conference sessions, multiple types of informative scientific meeting symposia and themed abstract sessions featuring the research of seasoned rheumatologists and health professional as well as up-and-coming trainees and medical students.
You are invited to submit your abstract and take advantage of the opportunity to share your work with colleagues and receive potential recognition for these efforts.
The abstract submission guidelines for the ACR special abstract categories e.g., late-breaking and fellow-in-training are detailed in the Call for Abstracts (available online in PDF format) and in the Submission Guidelines throughout the online submission program; they are summarized here.
Abstract Processing Fees
Late-Breaking Abstract
A $130 processing fee (in U.S. funds) must accompany each abstract. The late-breaking abstract category allows for the submission of truly late-breaking scientific research for which no preliminary data are available at the time of the May 1, 2008, abstract submission deadline.
This category is not a mechanism to allow for updated data to be submitted later when preliminary data are available by the abstract submission deadline. Abstracts may be selected for oral or poster presentations. It is likely that no more than 20 percent of late-breaking submissions will be accepted for presentation.
Fellow-in-Training Abstract
A $60 processing fee (in U.S. funds) must accompany each abstract. The ACR offers a special fellow-in-training abstract category with a deadline of August 11, 2008.
There is no acceptance rate advantage to submitting to the fellow-in-training abstract category; nor will abstracts submitted to the May deadline be reconsidered for presentation.
Abstract Format
The abstract limit is 2,750 characters, including the title and authors, not including spacing or disclosures. In addition, if you import tables and graphics, your character count will be decreased by 250 characters from the total limit allowed. Your abstract will be considered “incomplete” if you exceed the limit.
Omit all names and geographical references in the body of the abstract. Authors should organize abstract content in four sections: background/purpose, methods, results and conclusions, identifiable by bold headers.
Research Method, Treatment Trial Phases and Types of Clinical Trials
Presenting Author Responsibilities
The presenting author will be the sole point of contact for information regarding the submission and is responsible for the following:
- Ensuring each co-author is aware of the contents of the abstract and supports its data.
- Ensuring each co-author is aware of the disclosure requirements.
- Presenting the abstract or arranging a co-author to present the abstract if it is selected for presentation during an oral and/or poster abstract session.
- Forwarding abstract acceptance/rejection notification, and ACCME and ACR policies to each co-author.
Acceptance for Presentation
The Presenting Author will be notified via e-mail in August. The Presenting Author is the only author who will receive notification and is the point of contact for all co-authors listed on the abstract. Only coauthors listed on the abstract may present the abstract in the event that the Presenting Author is not available. (This includes poster presentations.) The late-breaking and fellow-in-training presenting authors will be notified in September.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the supplement of the September issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism, the official journal of the American College of Rheumatology. Accepted late-breaking and fellow-in-training abstracts will be published in the December issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism. All accepted abstracts will be available on the ACR Web site in September.
