Political Contributions

RheumPAC is non-partisan and therefore, gives to candidates in all political parties. A candidate's party affiliation is not taken into account when determining a contribution. The committee uses one or all of the following criteria to determine RheumPAC support for a congressional candidate:

  • The candidate supports rheumatology related issues.
  • The candidate holds a leadership position or key committee assignment.
  • The candidate was recommended by an ACR or ARHP member.

2011

U.S. House of Representatives

Representative John Barrow (D-GA)

Rep. Barrow is a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee and the Blue Dog Coalition. He was a co-sponsor of the Arthritis Prevention, Control and Cure Act (H.R. 1210) and the Medicare Fracture Prevention and Osteoporosis Testing Act (H.R. 1894) in the 111th Congress. Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA)

RheumPAC attended an event for Rep. Waxman in Los Angeles. Rep. Waxman is the ranking member of the Energy & Commerce committee and a member of the Health subcommittee. He has shown his support of the rheumatology community by co-sponsoring the Arthritis Act bringing the legislation up for a vote in the committee in the 111th Congress.

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH)

Senator Brown is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education and related agencies. Senator Brown is supportive of the pediatric subspecialty loan repayment program and was helpful in securing the provision in the Affordable Care Act. Local ACR members attended an event for Senator Brown in Ohio.

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

Sen. Hatch is the ranking member of the Senate Finance committee and a member of the Health, Education, Labor & Pension committee. David Borenstein, MD, ACR President, attended a small event for the Senator and discussed rheumatology related issues.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)

Senator Klobuchar was a co-sponsor of the Arthritis Act in the 111th Congress and is the lead sponsor of legislation to address prescription drug shortages. She is also a great supporter of medical research.

Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME)

Sen. Snowe was the sponsor of the Medicare Fracture Prevention and Osteoporosis Testing Act in the 111th Congress. Sen. Snowe was an integral part of getting increased reimbursement for DXA screenings included in the final health reform bill.

Representative Anna Eshoo (D-CA)

Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) is the sponsor of the "Arthritis Prevention, Control and Cure Act" (H.R.1210/S.984) and continues to be one of the ACR's greatest champions. She was instrumental in the House passage of the Arthritis Act in September 2008. She was awarded one of the first ACR Award for Public Leadership in Rheumatology for her dedication to the Arthritis Act and the rheumatology community.
