ACR Reviews 2012 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule

On July 1, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released the 2012 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule. The ACR will comment on several proposals that will impact rheumatologists including:
- CMS' request for the AMA RUC to conduct a comprehensive review of all evaluation and management codes
- CMS' request for the AMA RUC to review procedural codes identified as misvalued with high utilization
- Penalties for nonparticipation in PQRS and E-prescribing
- Collection and publication of data on physician quality and efficiency
The ACR will also reiterate support for a permanent repeal of the sustainable growth rate formula, which if not fixed, will result in a 29.5% reduction in physician payments beginning January 1, 2012. Read the comment letter here
