Contact Congress: Legislation to Ensure Access to DXAs Introduced

May 27, 2011

Chronic reductions in Medicare reimbursement for osteoporosis screenings have resulted in reduced access to this preventative service.  A provision in the Affordable Care Act provided temporary relief, increasing reimbursement to 70% of the 2006 Medicare reimbursement level for 2010-2011. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Representatives Shelley Berkley (D-NV) and Michael Burgess, MD (R-TX) have introduced the Preservation of Access to Osteoporosis Testing for Medicare Beneficiaries Act of 2011 (H.R. 2020/S. 1096). This legislation extends payment for DXA scans at the current reimbursement rate through 2013.

Contact your members of Congress today and urge them to sign on to H.R. 2020/S. 1096!
