ACR Working to Address the Elimination of Consultation Codes
December 18, 2009
The ACR has been working all angles to address the elimination of consultation codes scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2010. On December 10, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) introduced an amendment (SA 3163) that would require a one year delay on the elimination of consultation codes and would require the HHS Secretary to work with the AMA CPT Editorial Panel during this period to modify existing consultation codes or establish new codes to more accurately reflect the services provided. The ACR has sent a letter to the HHS Secretary urging CMS to delay the elimination of consultation codes for one year to allow for adequate education and determine new codes that adequately compensate specialists for their work.
You can contact your Senators to urge support of SA 3163 using the ACR Legislative Action Center. If you have any questions about ACR’s efforts or would like to receive the ACR’s Calls to Action, contact the Government Affairs Department at 404-633-3777 or .
