Health Care Reform Survives Final Hurdle
March 29, 2010
On Thursday, March 25, House Democrats voted 220-207 to approve the Health Care Education Affordability Reconciliation Act, H.R. 4872, after the Senate made minor changes to the March 22 House passed version. The reconciliation package now heads to the President for his signature.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, H.R. 3590, includes two provisions that are among the College's legislative priorities.
The bill authorizes:
- A pediatric loan repayment program for pediatric subspecialists to assist in debt relief. The ACR and the Pediatric Work Force Work Group must now work to secure funding for the program.
- The return of reimbursement for DXA screenings to 70 percent of the 2006 levels for 2010 and 2011 while a study is performed on the ramifications of payment reductions.
