House Approves Health Care Overhaul
Mar 22, 2010
On Sunday, March 21, House Democrats passed landmark health care legislation by a party line vote of 219-212. The vote sends the Senate's health care bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590), to the President for his signature.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590) includes two provisions that are among the College's legislative priorities.
- The bill authorizes a pediatric loan repayment program for pediatric subspecialists to assist in debt relief. The ACR and the Pediatric Work Force Work Group must now work to secure funding for the program.
- The return of reimbursement for DXA screenings to 70 percent of the 2006 levels for 2010 and 2011 while a study is performed on the ramifications of payment reductions
This week the Senate will consider and vote on the House approved Health Care & Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010
, which includes a package of "fixes" to the bill. A majority of Senators, all of whom are Democrats, have agreed to support the reconciliation measure.
