Republican Wins Senate Seat in Massachusetts

Massachusetts Republican state Senator Scott Brown shattered the Democrats’ supermajority in a special election win on Tuesday, January 19. Brown’s election gives Senate Republicans 41 seats and the minimum votes needed to filibuster the Democratic agenda, including health care reform legislation. Sen. Brown’s election makes him the first Republican to hold a Massachusetts Senate seat since 1972.
