2012 Annual Meeting Press Releases

St.Clair Continues Term as Treasurer of the American College of Rheumatology

WASHINGTON – William St.Clair, MD, a rheumatologist and professor at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C., will continue the second year of his two-year term as treasurer of the American College of Rheumatology. The announcement was made at the ACR’s annual business meeting held this week in Washington, D.C.

Dr. St.Clair is chief of the division of rheumatology and immunology and W. Lester Brooks, Jr. professor of medicine at Duke. His primary research interests include the development of novel immunological therapies for rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome, scleroderma and systemic vasculitis.

Dr. St.Clair received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in Rheumatology at Duke University Medical Center.

Currently, Dr. St.Clair serves as the principal investigator for the Duke Autoimmunity Center of Excellence, a project funded by the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He is also the deputy director for clinical affairs of the Immune Tolerance Network, a NIAID-funded consortium dedicated to the development of tolerance-inducing therapies in transplantation, allergy and asthma, and autoimmunity.

Dr. St.Clair is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and reviews, and served as the lead editor for Rheumatoid Arthritis – a book describing the epidemiology, clinical features, pathogenesis, and treatment of this disease. He has also served as deputy editor of Arthritis & Rheumatism, a scientific medical journal published by the ACR.

An active volunteer with the College, Dr. St.Clair is currently a member of the ACR and Rheumatology Research Foundation (formerly the ACR Research and Education Foundation) executive committee and board of directors. He has served a two-year term as president of the Rheumatology Research Foundation, and chaired the ACR Committee on Research. Dr. St.Clair is also a member of the American Association of Immunologists and the American College of Physicians.
