Flood Named 2013 President-Elect of American College of Rheumatology
WASHINGTON – Joseph Flood, MD, a clinical rheumatologist with 25 years of experience in musculoskeletal medicine was named 2013 president-elect of the American College of Rheumatology at the ACR’s annual business meeting held this week in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Flood is in practice at Columbus Arthritis Center, a single-specialty rheumatology practice in Columbus, Ohio. He is also on the clinical faculty of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health, where he is an active teacher. In 2002, he received the Distinguished Educator Award from that institution.
Dr. Flood recently completed a two-year term as secretary for both the ACR and the Rheumatology Research Foundation (formerly ACR Research Education Foundation). Additionally, Dr. Flood has a life-long interest in politics, especially the politics of medical care. He served as chair of the ACR Government Affairs Committee and previously served the ACR as a member of its board of directors. He was instrumental in the founding of the RheumPAC, the ACR’s political action committee.
Dr. Flood is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and serves on its President’s Visiting Committee. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and also earned his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital. He was a fellow in rheumatic diseases in a combined program with Georgetown and the Washington Veterans Administration Medical School.
