Harvinder Luthra Named Master of American College of Rheumatology

ATLANTA – Harvinder S. Luthra, MD; the John F. Finn Minnesota Arthritis Foundation, professor of medicine and emeritus chair of the division of rheumatology at the Mayo Medical School College of Medicine was named a Master of the American College of Rheumatology at a session of the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting, on November 7 in Atlanta.

The member designation of Master is conferred by the board of directors of the College on ACR members, age 65 or older, who have made outstanding contributions to the field of rheumatology through scholarly achievement and/or service to their patients, students and profession.

Dr. Luthra completed his medical education at the Christian Medical School, Ludhiana, India. After completing his residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, he joined the rheumatology training program at the Mayo Medical School College of Medicine and studied under the guidance of Howard F. Polley, MD and Fredric C. McDuffie, MD. Following his training, he joined the faculty of the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School as a consultant in internal medicine and rheumatology. He is currently the John F. Finn Minnesota Arthritis Foundation Professor.

Dr. Luthra has been very active in ACR activities, having served as member and chair of the Scientific Program Committee, member of the Committee on Education and Committee on Nominations and Appointments. He also served as the treasurer, vice-president and president of the central region of the ACR. He is active with other organizations and served as chair of the rheumatology and immunology subsection of the central society of clinical research and has been a member of the Food and Drug Administration Arthritis Advisory Committee. At Mayo Medical School College of Medicine, he has served in many different capacities including vice-chair for research for the department of internal medicine and chairman of the division of rheumatology.
