Robert Lloyd Named Master of American College of Rheumatology
ATLANTA – Robert J. Lloyd, MD; clinical associate professor of medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine., was named a Master of the American College of Rheumatology at a session of the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting, on November 7 in Atlanta.
The member designation of Master is conferred by the board of directors of the College on ACR members, age 65 or older, who have made outstanding contributions to the field of rheumatology through scholarly achievement and/or service to their patients, students and profession.
Dr. Lloyd is a graduate of the Providence College and Georgetown University School of Medicine where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and was the recipient of the Physiology and Biophysics award. He also completed his graduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology at Georgetown University Medical Center, where he is currently a clinical associate professor of medicine. He is a past recipient of the Clinical Faculty Award of the department of internal medicine. He also received the Vicennial Medal from Georgetown University in 1995. He has served on numerous committees of the District of Columbia Medical Society and as chairman of the rheumatology section. Dr. Lloyd has been engaged in the private practice of rheumatology in the Washington, D.C. area for 36 years.
A committed volunteer for the ACR, Dr. Lloyd has served on numerous committees over the past 26 years including the Committee on Rheumatologic Care network member from1985 through 1991, as a member of the ACR CORC, and chairman of the Legislative Affairs Subcommittee from 1992 through 1995. In addition, Dr. Lloyd has been a member of the Committee on Finance, the Committee on Government Affairs, as well as the Committee on Nominations and Appointments. Since 1991, he has represented the ACR on the Subspecialty Advisory Group for Socioeconomic Affairs of the American College of Physicians. He also represented the ACR on the American Medical Association’s Current Procedural Terminology Advisory Panel and received the Burgess Gordon award for his work on the drug infusion code workgroup. In 2002, Dr. Lloyd was honored to receive the Paulding Phelps Award for outstanding service on behalf of clinical rheumatology and the ACR.
