John Klippel Named Master of American College of Rheumatology

ATLANTA – John H. Klippel, MD, president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation, was named a Master of the American College of Rheumatology at a session of the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting, on November 7 in Atlanta.

The member designation of Master is conferred by the board of directors of the College on ACR members, age 65 or older, who have made outstanding contributions to the field of rheumatology through scholarly achievement and/or service to their patients, students and profession.

Dr. Klippel is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where his interests in arthritis research and rheumatology were shaped early by work in the laboratory of Evelyn V. Hess, MD. He completed internal medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and rheumatology fellowship training as a Clinical Associate at the National Institutes of Health and the University of California at San Diego. Following completion of his fellowships, he returned to the National Institutes of Health serving as a senior investigator in the Arthritis and Rheumatism Branch and he was appointed the first clinical director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.
