Ronald Kaufman Named Master of American College of Rheumatology

ATLANTA – Ronald L. Kaufman, MD, MBA; chief medical officer at Tenet Healthcare was named a Master of the American College of Rheumatology at a session of the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting, on November 7 in Atlanta.

The member designation of Master is conferred by the board of directors of the College on ACR members, age 65 or older, who have made outstanding contributions to the field of rheumatology through scholarly achievement and/or service to their patients, students and profession.

Dr. Kaufman received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, Doctor of Medicine at the University of California at Irvine and Master of Business Administration at the University of Southern California. He achieved Alpha Omega Alpha membership upon graduation from medical school, Beta Gamma Sigma from business school, and Phi Kappa Phi faculty honor society. Dr. Kaufman completed his post-graduate medical training at the Los Angeles County + USC Healthcare Network and is board-certified in internal medicine, rheumatology, and medical management.

Dr. Kaufman is professor emeritus of clinical medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, and a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Rheumatology, American College of Healthcare Executives, and American College of Physician Executives. In May 2008, he received the Humanitarian Award from National Medical Fellowships, an organization that has given over 26,000 scholarships to minority medical students. He is a native of Los Angeles, graduating from Los Angeles High School. He has been married to his wife, Barbara, for 37 years, and has two daughters (a dermatopathology fellow and a real estate financial analyst) and two grandchildren.

Dr. Kaufman has also held leadership positions within his professional organizations, including president of the ACR. Dr. Kaufman has served as a board member for the Los Angeles County Medical Association, the California Hospital Association, the Integrated Healthcare Association, and the Facey Medical Foundation.
