James Named President of Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals
ATLANTA – Nadine T. James, RN, MSN, PhD was elected the 2011 president of the Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals during the ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting held this week in Atlanta.
Dr. James is the dean and associate professor at William Carey University at the Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Her research interest in rheumatology began in 1999 with her dissertation where she examined the perception of exercise in older adults with arthritis.
In 2001, she received her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Birmingham where she continued on as a faculty member in the school of nursing. While there, she completed the National Institute of Health Clinical Research Training Certificate and was a scientist in the Center for Education and Research in Therapeutics (called CERT). At the CERT she was a co-investigator on three projects: “Adverse Events in Glucocorticoid Treatment,” “Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practices among a High Risk Population with Arthritis in Alabama,” and participation in the sub-analysis of cost effectiveness in the study – “Improving Quality of Care in Steroid-Induced Osteoporosis (GIOP)” funded through a NIAMS grant.
Dr. James moved to Mississippi in 2004 where she received the Researcher of the Year award in 2007 at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has also been the chair of the ARHP’s Research Committee for three years.
