Flood Named Secretary of American College of Rheumatology

ATLANTA – Joseph Flood, MD, FACR, a clinical rheumatologist in solo practice in Columbus, Ohio was appointed secretary of the American College of Rheumatology during the ACR's annual business meeting, held Wednesday, November 10 in Atlanta.

Dr. Flood is a clinical rheumatologist with 25 years of experience in musculoskeletal medicine. He is happily in solo practice in Columbus, Ohio, but has experience in a single specialty partnership and was chief medical officer of a multispecialty medical group. He is also on the clinical faculty of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health, where he is an active teacher.

In 2002, Dr. Flood received the Distinguished Educator Award from the College of Medicine and Public Health at The Ohio State University.

Additionally, Dr. Flood has a life-long interest in politics and especially in the politics of medical care. He is past chair of the ACR Government Affairs Committee and has previously served the College as a member of its board of directors. He was instrumental in the founding of RheumPAC – the ACR’s political action committee.

Dr. Flood graduated from St. Ignatius High School, where he currently serves on the President’s Visiting Committee, and went on to obtain his undergraduate degree at Baldwin-Wallace College. Dr. Flood received all of his medical training in Washington, D.C. – graduating from Georgetown University School of Medicine where he also was a fellow in rheumatic diseases in a combined program with the Washington Veterans Administration Medical School. He was an intern and resident in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital.
