Mark Robbins Receives American College of Rheumatology Distinguished Service Award
ATLANTA – Mark L. Robbins, MD, MPH; department of rheumatology at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates received the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Rheumatology during the ACR Annual Scientific Meeting, November 6 – 11 in Atlanta.
The Distinguished Service Award is given to an ACR member for outstanding and sustained service to the ACR.
Dr. Robbins completed medical school at Albany Medical College followed by internal medicine and rheumatology training at University of Wisconsin. During fellowship he was the lead author on the first, and co-author on the second, of two articles on CNS lupus published in Arthritis & Rheumatism. His education background also includes completing a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Robbins served as chair of the ACR Committee on Rheumatologic Care during somewhat turbulent times when controversies of infusion reimbursement and pressures for early adoption of EMRs were at the forefront. During his time as CORC chair, he edited a quarterly Practice Management Newsletter, conducted a detailed economic survey of clinical practice, and with an IT consultant conducted an in depth study of 'off the shelf' EMR products for small office practice, complete with final rankings, and testing of products to determine ease of use. Following CORC, he served for three years on the ACR board of directors, then three years on the ACR Committee on Nominations and Appointments. Dr. Robbins currently co-chairs the Quality Measures Subcommittee, serves as a liaison to the newly-formed Committee on Registries and Health Information Technology and is a member of the Health Information Technology Subcommittee.
