Growing Membership
The total number of ACR/ARHP members as of December 31, 2012 was 9,270: 7,933 ACR members and 1,337 ARHP members. The ARHP promotedmembership by exhibiting at the Rheumatology Nursing Society Annual Conference, and the National Organization of Rheumatology Managers Annual Conference. With the growth of rheumatology practice managers and staff, the ARHP proposed thecreation of a new practice management membership category that was approved bythe ACR Board of Directors. The new category will launch in early 2013.

Supporting Volunteer Growth and Providing Tools for Success
The ACR is able to work towards its mission of advancingrheumatology with the efforts made by its volunteers. In 2012, hundreds ofmembers volunteered with the College in various capacities including committeeservice, moderating, reviewing abstracts and grant applications as well asparticipating in the Simple Tasks speakers' bureau. Over this year, the Committee on Nominations and Appointmentsselected over 50 percent new volunteers for placement on ACR standingcommittees to ensure that the volunteers represent various backgrounds, areasof expertise, and work environments.

In order to continue to provide our volunteers with tools tosucceed within the ACR and in their practice, the ACR hosted its annualleadership development conference in Atlanta on January 21, 2012. This year's conference focused on mediarelations and social media in a health care environment. The participants wereallowed to set the agenda for the sessions based on topics that interest themincluding how to successfully implement the various types of social media intheir work place.
