Advancing Rheumatology
The ACR adopted a multi-year strategic plan in 2010 focused on nine organizational priorities. The new mission and vision statement truly represent the strategic direction of the College and the plan is scheduled through 2012.
Growing Membership
The total number of ACR/ARHP members as of November 30, 2010 was 8,719: 7,533 ACR members and 1,222 ARHP members.

Providing Leadership Opportunities and Tools for Success
Over 700 members volunteered for service in the College in 2010, and—to ensure that members of varying backgrounds are represented in the ACR leadership—the Committee on Nominations and Appointments recommended members for the 2010 – 2011 volunteer year from various backgrounds, areas of expertise and work environments.
To help leaders grow in their roles, the ACR held a leadership development program in December 2009, which focused on the new ACR and REF strategic plans.
Building a More Structured International Collaboration
The International League of Associations for Rheumatology continues to provide closer ties and collaboration between the regional leagues —African League of Associations for Rheumatology, Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology, European League Against Rheumatism, Pan American League Against Rheumatism— and the ACR as they stay united in the common goal of advancing rheumatology in developing countries.
In 2010, the ILAR executive committee received 64 proposals from all over the world. With a goal to lay rheumatology foundations in developing countries, ILAR funded over $100,000 worth of grants to projects from Argentina, the Asia-Pacific region, India, Macedonia and Zambia. ILAR also held a special session at the 2010 ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting to inform the rheumatology community of its mission and goals as well as provide an update of the progress of the projects they provided seed money to.
