Biographical Sketch:

Sixty-Eighth President of the ACR

Elizabeth Tindall, MD, Director of Rheumatology and Clinical Research at Portland Medical Associates, and Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, was named president of the American College of Rheumatology during the ACR's annual business meeting held Oct. 20 in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Tindall is also an active affiliate of Adventist Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland, and Legacy Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin, Oregon.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Tindall received her MD from Indiana University Medical School. She graduated Sigma Phi Alpha and Alpha Omega Alpha from Indiana University Medical School, and remained at Indiana University to do her internship in internal medicine. She performed her residency in internal medicine at Providence Medical Center in Portland, and her fellowship in allergy, immunology, and rheumatology at Oregon Health Sciences University.

Dr. Tindall has been an active volunteer and a leader in the American College of Rheumatology in many capacities. She served on the Board of Directors in 1993---1997 and again from 1999 to the present. She was the ACR's representative to the American Medical Association's CPT Specialty Advisory Committee in 1993---1997, the Ad Hoc Ethics Committee in 1996---2000, and the Finance Committee in 1997---2002. She was a member of the Committee on Rheumatologic Care in 1991---1992. Dr. Tindall chaired the Pacific Northwest Region of the Committee on Rheumatologic Care in 1997---2000, the ACR Quality Indicators Committee in 2003---2004, and the Planning Committee in 2004. In 1999---2002, she was the Chair of the Finance Committee, and Secretary-Treasurer of both the ACR and the ACR Research and Education Foundation. She was elected Vice-President of the ACR, and she became President-Elect in 2003.

A member of the Oregon Council of the American Society of Internal Medicine, Dr. Tindall has also participated in the Oregon Medicare Advisory Committee. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, the Oregon Quality Corporation of the Oregon Coalition of Health Care Purchasers, and the Oregon Rheumatology Alliance. She was the Secretary of the Oregon Rheumatology Alliance in 2000---2003. Dr. Tindall is also on the Medical Advisory Board of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.

Dr. Tindall's many honors include the American College of Rheumatology Paulding Phelps Award in 1992, and the American Women's Association Scholastic Achievement award. She has been featured in Best Doctors in America from 1992 to 2004.

Dr. Tindall resides in Portland, Oregon with her husband, Dr. Charles L. Colip. They have two children, Leslie Ann and Charles.
