The American College of Rheumatology (the "College") is committed to safeguarding your privacy. This statement explains our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way the information you provide us is collected and used. For easy and direct access, we provide a link to this statement from the footer of our home page and all other pages of the website (the "Site").
The College is the sole owner of and the only organization that uses the information collected on this Site. We will not sell or rent this information to others under any circumstances. Please see the Service Providers section of this Policy for an explanation of how we share certain information with some approved third party providers for specific services needed to conduct business.
We do not store sensitive information from our visitors, such as credit card or social security numbers. We sometimes request users of the Site to provide personally identifiable information. If you create an account, you will need a personal User Name and Password. You may be asked for your contact information, such as your name, email address, address, work setting, profession, principal professional field and country of residence ("Personal Information"). The Personal Information is linked directly to a personal User Name and Password chosen by the user and can be retrieved only by supplying the correct User Name and Password that is linked to that account. It is the user’s responsibility to maintain his/her password securely and to confirm the accuracy of his/her information. The College does not share your profile with third parties.
The College uses certain third-party providers as needed to conduct business and to provide specific services. For example, we use third party companies for certain meeting registration functions, abstract processing, market research, fundraising, journal publishing, shipping and credit card processing. We may share names, address information, phone, fax, and/or an email address as necessary for the third party to provide these services. These third parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services. We make our privacy policies clear to any providers, and adherence to these policies is required for maintaining a business relationship with the College. These companies are under contractual obligation with the College, and do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
We collect an internet protocol ("IP") address from all visitors to our Site. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our Site, analyze trends, track users' movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the Site, and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses may be collected in log files along with information regarding your browser type, internet service provider, referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
The College collects the following information through our secure online financial-transaction pages: name, address, email address, phone number, and credit card information. This personally identifiable information is used for billing purposes, to process your order, to acknowledge receipt of your transaction and/or to include you on the College’s mailing/emailing list if you choose to join them. Additionally, if we have trouble processing an order, the information is used to contact the user. By engaging in an kind of activity on the Site that uses financial information, you consent to our using your financial information, or providing your financial information to our service providers and to such third parties as we determine is necessary, to process your transactions. These third parties may include banking institutions used to process these transactions Any of these various third parties are authorized to use your financial information in accordance with our contractual arrangements with such third parties and in accordance with their own privacy policies, over which we have no control.
We care about the security of your transactions and apply industry-standard practices and technologies to safeguard your credit card information. We use high-grade encryption and the secure https protocol to communicate with your browser software, which guards against interception of the credit card information you give us. We also employ several different security techniques to protect your personally identifiable information from unauthorized access by users inside and outside the organization. The Web servers for the College are located in a secure environment, and computer systems are maintained in accordance with industry standards to secure information. You should be aware, however, that “perfect security” does not exist on the Internet, and third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications.
None of the content and information on the College’s website is targeted toward children under 13 years of age. We make every effort possible to ensure that we do not collect or maintain information on our website from those we know to be younger than 16 unless parental consent has been obtained in writing. If you are under the age of 16, please do not provide any Personal Information through the Site. If you are under the age of 16 and have already provided Personal Information through the Site, please have your parent or guardian contact us immediately using the information below so that we can remove such Personal Information from our files.
